Marvin Gaye was a man of massive artistic and personal contradictions: a compelling live performer who couldn’t dance and was afflicted with stage fright; an honest singer who never quite tamed the demons of sin, syncopation, and salvation that was evident in everything he did – from What’s Going On to Let’s Get it On – and the self-absorbed egomaniac who didn’t really believe in himself.

New York-- The City council vote to rezone 125^th St. was supported by 44 Council members, and 3 members with modification proposals. Finally the vote came down to 47 Yes and 2 No. The 44 Council members were going to push through the Mayor’s plan, no matter what, with few benefits for the historic community. And they did.
