New Chairperson of Congressional Black Caucus Starts Column on TBWT Leading African American Site Announces New Hires

Baltimore, Feb. 28, 2001

The newly-elected chairperson of the Congressional Black Caucus (CBC), Dallas congresswoman Eddie Bernice Johnson, has joined the commentators ranks of The Black World Today (http://www.tbwt.com), the Web’s leading destination site for African Americans.

“We are delighted to present Cong. Johnson’s views to the growing black online community”, said Don Rojas, publisher and CEO of The Black World Today. “Her weekly column will contribute significantly to the public discourse on critical issues that affect black communities in the USA and throughout the global black diaspora.”

TBWT also announced the hiring of three new executives to fill the positions of marketing director, women’s editor and arts & entertainment editor.

Yolanda Sealey-Ruiz, a graduate of New York and Columbia Universities, assumes the position of marketing director. Her marketing career began at The New York Times in 1990. She also has worked with Business Week as general promotion manager and has served as director of marketing for New York University’s largest school (Continuing and Professional Studies) which serves over 70,000 students.

Lori S. Robinson has been appointed Women’s Editor at TBWT. She holds a masters degree in journalism from New York University and worked for several years at Emerge magazine as an associate editor. Ms. Robinson has won several awards and honors including two from the National Association of Black Journalists and the Inspirational Award from the International Black Women’s Congress.

Vinette Pryce has been named TBWT’s Arts & Entertainment Editor. Also an award-winning journalist with many years of experience reporting for newspapers and magazines in the USA, Europe, Africa and the Caribbean, Ms Pryce writes and edits reports and reviews covering music, theatre, film and dance for The New York Amsterdam News and other major publications.

“The addition of these dynamic and competent black women to the TBWT team will greatly enhance our ability to bring our readers more compelling and original content as well as heighten our overall visibility and credibility,” noted Herb Boyd, national editor of The Black World Today. “At a time when many Internet companies are folding or retrenching staff, we are pleased to announce that our staff, as well as our reader base, continues to expand”.

TBWT also announced today that the company has established a strategic partnership with The KIP Business Report (a New York City-based publication) to build a co-branded mini-site focusing on business news and services for African American entrepreneurs, marketers and professionals. This mini-site will be hosted on the TBWT portal site and will feature columns and reports from renowned African American business journalists such as Frank McCoy, former senior editor at Black Enterprise Magazine and currently an editor at US News and World Report.

Now in its fifth year of uninterrupted online publishing, the Baltimore-based Black World Today is one of the most experienced and respected “New Media” companies in the world.
